About the Project
This photoshoot was created for a Talon Student Media feature on up-and-coming DJ Xoga. Pictured is Xoga and his best friend/assistant, Keonis. The visual direction was built to reflect his identity as an underground artist: raw, unpolished, and rooted in real environments.
I intentionally used exaggerated low angles and wide lens distortion to create a sense of presence and unpredictability, mirroring the energy of his live sets. The compositions often feel slightly off-balance or confrontational, which reinforces the idea that his work exists outside of polished, mainstream spaces.
Lighting was kept harsh and natural, and the images were left largely unedited. This was a deliberate choice to preserve texture, imperfections, and environmental detail- echoing the atmosphere of his shows, which often take place in abandoned or unconventional locations.
